How appropos!
been awhile since i participated.
like what you've done to the place, simon.
seems a bit tamer than the old board though.. need the board's input on a sociology question and wonder if some of you might respond.. i can't tell you how many conversations i have had with witnesses and ex-witnesses where the subject doesn't inevitably come up about who is still 'in' and who has 'fallen away'.

Michael Shermer in his book Why People Believe Weird things, explained soem sociological evidence why Firstborns tend to stay in the religion of their parents and why laterborns have a greater probability of leaving. I don't have the book with me now or else I would give you a page number.
I am the 2nd of 2. My older bro is still a JW and an elder, and he hates my guts, LOL
i just received my copy and am only on about pg 20 but i think you guys would enjoy it enormously!!
it is funny and even a non jw would understand the workings of dubland.
so far i highly recommend it and am anxious to hear what the ex jw's here have to say about it.. .
I'm sure Kyria will be happy to hear that... I need to get my copy... I might see her next week for my wedding... so I will tell her to check out this thread....
my anointed step dad always mentions about how the first century christians had a governing body also.
where in the bible does it actually say that?
to me governing body is just a dictatorship of men who think they are right and can control, no different than the governments....governing body set rules, and ultimately decide your future as far as i'm concerned.
Jeff,
Barber gave that BS FDS talk during my class. As I mentioned in my WT Comments video, this lecture set off the red flags...
i got home from work last night and guess what happened while i was gone?.
my wife tells me she called the presiding overseer to set up a time for all of us to talk about our premarital no-no's.. "really?
" i asked her.
My mom got DFd last week and she is so happy. DAing is all its cracked up to be... Go for it!
Freedom rocks!

JWs reject the trinity because the word is not found in the Bible.
They should apply that same standard to "governing body" and "organization", words which also do not appear in the Bible.
jws teach that the father created jesus who was the angel michael and jesus is "mighty god" (nwt is 9:6) and "a god" (nwt john 1:1).. however, read this verse.. .
isaiah 43:10 (new international version) .
10 "you are my witnesses," declares the lord, .
we are deceived or deluded in our claims that Jesus is the absolute truth and should be doing something else with our lives
Amen. Praise the FSM!

I am all for DAing, so if you go that route, Kudos and strength to you, man... and your wife may wake up after all, anyway...
Here's a loophole if you want (remember the child molestors take advantage of this)
If she confesses and you say that it is not true, then they do not have 2 witnesses. They can form a committee for your wife, but unless you corroborate what she says, thay cannot for a JC for you, as they do not have 2 witnesses.
I sat on a JC a few years ago in a similar situation. One person confessed to wrongdoing and implicated another. The other denied it, and avoided a JC. The confessing bro. got a private reproof. While his self-damning testimony was compelling, it was not 2 witnesses against the other, who got off scot-free..

an atheist friend (never a jw) sent me a link to this fun test:.

turns out i am 100% secular humanist, but unfortunately i am still 5% jw!.
Quite a number of secular humanists here... although Buddhists and Hindus are present too... LOL
